Found on East Eleventh Street and Avenue B

I found this Bookmasters bookmark on East Eleventh Street last Friday. A lazy google turns up a similar bookmark in Ed Park's obituary for Coliseum Books and a there's a mention of Bookmasters bookstore in Aram Saroyan's 1992 memoir, Friends in the World:

"I was living now in my first apartment, at 321 East 45th Street, and working at Bookmasters Bookstore on Broad-way off of Times Square. Allen Ginsberg, whom I'd met, came into the store once or twice."

But otherwise nada. I don't think (even though the logotype is similar) that there's any connection between Bookmasters the midwestern printer and Bookmasters Bookstore in Times Square.

Given the location, the dated phone number, the order form, and Ginsberg's patronage, I wonder if their business was mostly sending brown paper packages of books to the home addresses of tourists from cities with, um, more limited bookstores and tastes. I love that the order form implies that Bookmasters stocked every book in the world. Note that the customer writes in the price--I'm sure that never caused any misunderstandings.
